Children and Grandchildren

Reading the Bible recently I have across several promises regarding children and grandchildren. Having seen how the writer of Psalm 119 prays 'according to your promises' I felt I should apply this method of praying when I intercede for my children and grandchildren.  With the help of a concordance I soon found a number of promises God makes to bless my children.  I recorded them and then repeated them to God as I prayed for my children and grandchildren, reminding him to keep these promises.

I had only just started to pray when my son phoned me, an unusual occurrence and one that encouraged me to persevere with this method of praying.  Over the next week or so I saw other signs that God was working in the hearts of my children and grandchildren.  One of my grandson asked his father questions about where God was and did he get cold at night.  My daughter went to a church carol service and one of her boys insisted on going with her. These may only seem like small incidents but I am encouraged by them and I will persist in praying for them using the following promises from God's Word.

Proverbs 20:7  "The righteous man leads a blameless life; blessed are his children after him"

Psalm 37:26  [The righteous]" are always generous and lend freely; their children will be blessed.":

Psalm 102:28 "The children of your servants will live in your presence; their descendants established before you."

Psalm 112:1,2 "Blessed is the man who fears the Lord ... His children will be mighty in the land"

Proverbs 14:26 "He who fears the Lord has a secure fortress and for his children it will be a refuge."

Proverbs 22:6 "Start children off on the way they should go and even when they are old they will not turn from it"

Isaiah 49:25 "I will contend with those who contend with you and your children I will save"

Isaiah 54:l3 "All your children will be taught by the Lord and great will be their peace"

Psalm 103:17 "But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord's love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children's children"

Isaiah 59:21 " As for me, this is my covenant with them, says the Lord.  'My Spirit who is on you, and my words that I have put in your mouth will not depart from your mouth or from the mouths of your children and from the mouths of their descendants from this time on and for ever' says the Lord.

Isaiah 65 23, 24 "They will not toil in vain or bear children doomed to misfortune; for they will be people blessed by the Lord, they and their descendants with them.  Before they call I will answer, while they are still speaking I will hear."

Deut 30:19 "This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses.  Now choose life, so that you and your children may live"
